March News
We have been fortunate to have our teacher, Mr. Benjamine Cooney, here this quarter. He will be doing the lead teaching starting next week for 2 weeks. He is a very talented young man.
I hope your child brought home the note about our classroom making a Ice-Cream Sundae basket for a raffle at conferences next week. Only a few thing have been brought in. I hope everyone can help out in some way.
Conferences are next week Tuesday, March 10th and Thursday March12th. A letter will be coming home early this week telling you the time you are scheduled.
I want to congratulate the following students for participating in the 4th grade Spell Bee last month
Andie J.
Josh H.
Matt F.
Colling B.
Robbie T.
We have a new Dino Divider:
Daniel. D.
The children should be keeping up with all their Basic Facts. THey will need them for life.
Our reading Genre' for March is to read an Historical Fiction book, and then make either a shoe box setting with characters, or answer the 10 question sheet. Congratulations to Dustin J. for top reader for the month of February

Spelling Bee
We will begin our classroom Spelling Bees this Tuesday, Jan. 20th. Your child will be getting a list to study from on Monday. I wanted to get the lists out last Thursday, but the cold weather shut down school. The children will be participating in 4 classroom Bees this week and can earn up to 5 points each day. Any child with at least 1 point by Friday will continue to participate in the 4 Spelling Bees next week, the students with 0 points will be having Spelling class as usual. The top 4 spellers in my classroom will advance in February to a 4th grade Spelling Bee held here at school.
January Newsletter
January, 2009
Dear Parents.
I hope you all enjoyed the holiday season. I would like to say thank you for all the nice gifts I received before and after the season. The students had a nice break, but I am worried that several of them have forgotten their basic facts and have been slacking off on meeting their Independent Reading goals.
Once again this month is full. Our first visit to Time for Ease, and adopted grandparents, will be this Wed., Jan. 14th in the morning. We should be visiting once a month now through May.
We will be attending the play Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters at the Viterbo Fine Arts Center in La Crosse, on Thurs. Jan. 22nd. Your child should be returning their permission slip by Wed. Jan. 14th.
We will be doing our Winter Writing Assessment this week and MAPS Testing on Jan. 20th, 27th, and 30th. Please remind your child to get enough rest and do their best.
I will be sending a note home later this month telling you where your child is on their Multiplication and Division Basic Facts. We are looking at for a score of 95% in 4 minutes for proficient. If you child has forgotten some of their facts, please work with them. It will make it easier as we get into longer multiplication and division problems.
Students in my reading group should be finished with their cursive books. I will be requiring most assignments in reading and Language to be done in cursive from now on.
We will be getting a student teacher from La Crosse, Mr. Benjamin Cooney, from Jan. 26 until March 30th. He will be a wonderful addition to our classroom.
I have started a Blog which you can find on the Sparta Webpage. Just look under my name at Meadowview Intermediate School.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact me at school 269-2187 or email me at ethibodeau@spartan.org
Sincerely,
Mrs. Ellyn Thibodeau
